Well Visits

Well-Visits for Both Adults and Children

Preventive care is an important part of medicine, and it all begins with well-visits. Well-visits are the best way for your doctor to monitor your overall health and wellness. Well-visits are important whether they are for a child or an adult.

Well-Visits for Children

Well-visits start early, within a few days of birth. The first visit may occur right after you leave the hospital. The first well-visit is followed by well-visits at 2 weeks, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24, 30 and 36 months. After the first series of well-visits, your child should have well-visits at least once each year.

During your child’s well visit, your doctor will:

  • Measure and record your child’s height, weight, and other essential information
  • Perform a comprehensive physical examination
  • Order any lab testing or imaging studies
  • Perform a behavioral screening if necessary to diagnose ADHD, delayed learning, and other issues.
  • Administer immunizations to protect your child

Well-Visits for Adults

Well-visits for adults should happen at least once each year.  Many insurances cover one wellness visit a year at 100%. During your well-visit, your doctor will:

  • Measure and record vital information including blood pressure, weight, and other factors
  • Perform a comprehensive physical examination
  • Order and review lab tests for cholesterol, blood sugar levels, and other important information

The well-visit is also an excellent opportunity for your doctor to discuss dietary and lifestyle modifications to help manage chronic conditions including:

  • Diabetes
  • Arthritis
  • Heart disease
  • Asthma
  • Weight management

Well-visits can help keep you and your family healthy through all the stages of your lives. You deserve to live your best life, no matter what your age.
